JSA is issued by the government through the Department for Work & Pensions. It is part of the nation’s social security benefit program. The Allowance is funded from the National Insurance Contributions. The first Jobseekers Allowance was issued in 1911. At the time, only the people who had previously been employed were eligible to claim the allowance.

Who Benefits from JSA?
Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) is an unemployment benefit offered to persons who are unemployed. The benefits are aimed to help the applicants meet their basic expenses before they secure a job. The eligibility of a claimant depends on how much he has contributed to the National Insurance Contribution in the past. A claimant should use the JSA number to enquire from the customer care’s team on how much he should receive. Jobseeker’s Allowance payments are done on a biweekly basis. People aged between 18-24 years receive a maximum of £56.80 per week. Claimants aged 25 years and above are given a maximum of £71.70 per week.

Eligibility.
In order to qualify for JSA, an applicant should not be employed or in school. He must be able and ready to work full time. He should also be actively looking for work. An applicant must visit the local Job Centre every two weeks to prove he has been seeking employment. A claimant must be aged between 18 years and below the State’s Pension age.
